Pelican Point

As a self confessed Family History Nut this blog will concentrate on topics to do with genealogy and family history, particularly for the United Kingdom. All topics are of interest, useful sites, brickwalls, ‘how to’ products, names, history of places, photos, records etc and helping and supporting each other in the spirit of the net since it began.
Where does this blog differ from other family history sites? Tough question that for we must see how it develops! Mainly it is a discussion forum for topics that appeal to us, sometimes interesting, sometimes controversial perhaps, hopefully not dull.
I make no excuse for the fact that I do not speak Geek or the modern slang English, but many of the rest of us do not either. English is a beautiful language, our heritage and our culture. A look at any good dictionary will provide the reader with ‘root’ words from many languages, reflecting our genetic roots and history.
Not many Family Historians dare to remember just how much our hobby costs us! All those certificates, photocopies, subscriptions, CD’s, books etc.... Not to mention all the hard work in dusty archives, in our local societies and on the net.......
Many are volunteers locally and on the world wide web. Those wonderful people who help unstintingly with transcriptions, look up’s, coordinating mailing lists, background folk etc and without whom family history as we know it would grind to a halt. I would like to make my first act on this blog a massive thank you to all those people who volunteer their services to assist us all in our family history research.
